Sally had always been interested in alternative and holistic therapies, so much so, that when she was made redundant from the Banking industry she enrolled on a full time study course, undertaking a four year BSc (Hons) Degree in Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture at the International College of Oriental Medicine, East Grinstead (affiliated to the University of Brighton).
This very intensive course included in-depth training in Western Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Chinese Medicine and Chinese Pathology. Not only did the course cover many different acupuncture frameworks and techniques, it provided a vital opportunity to gain invaluable experience by observing other practitioners in clinic and by completing 150 hours of clinical practice.
Sally obtained her Degree with Honours and now works full time from practices in Kent and East Sussex. She is a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) which abides by a strict code of ethics and safe practice, ensuring the highest standards of health and safety are met. All members of the BAcC are covered by Professional Liability Insurance.
In March 2011, Sally spent time in Shanghai, China, observing the integration of acupuncture with Western medicine by some of the top Chinese doctors, in the Shanghai University Hospitals. Later, she also had the privilege to attend an intensive course covering gynaecology, neurology, needle technique and health maintenance given by Dr Li Guo'An, Head of the Chinese Medicine Department of Shuguang Hospital and Professor at the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Dr Li pioneered acupuncture anaesthesiology for brain and open heart surgery and was featured in the 2003 BBC documentary on the integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medicine in China.
Sally is also qualified in therapeutic and sports massage which compliments acupuncture extremely well.
